Poetry: “Empathy”

Take a stroll in my stilettos
To see for yourself
How stilted
The situation becomes
When whispers of, “Slut!”
Infiltrate your self-image
Until you begin to believe in
Forced martyrdom

But remember —
You are not a victim.

She wasn’t asking for it. Neither was I.
