Art + Poetry: “Go(o)d”

Warning: the following poem contains idealogically-sensitive content. Reader discretion is advised.

***

Resentful capriciousness
Nearly rests
As martyred saints
Self-compress
Into statuesque
Brick-and-mortared
Monuments
Reprimanded through
Holy violence
Of character
Assassination
“Jesus loves you”
Psalms indicated
By Roman numerals
“Hallowed be
Thy name”
Imprinted into
Charitable collections
Casting siguls
Signaled by
Judgment of sins
(Good) books
Penned by
(God’s) men
Set to burn
In an effigy of
Ritualistic
Hate

The utmost privilege: pairing my poem “Go(o)d” with artwork ‘Saint’ by Bee Queen, a versatile artist who creates provocative depictions of intrinsic loneliness, societal alienation, and questionable conditioning.

My humble gratitude belongs to you, Bee Queen.
