Poetry: “Basal”

Slightly pause

Before sinking it in

Slipping the tip into

Skin

To skin

Pierce the plentiful portion

Of pear-sweet flesh

The deepest part

Always the hottest

Yielding to slim steel

After a perfunctory skirmish

Of metal versus meat

(No contest)

Wings folded

Beneath feet

Aluminum foiled

Tightly

Tidy

Bottom-up

Presenting

Surrender

Take notice

Of the ready ruddy blush

This cannot be enough.
